Acting for a defendant in a leading case in determining whether HM Inspector of Taxes was entitled to make a discovery assessment under the Taxes Management Act 1970 section 29 - judgments in the High Court of Justice and the Court of Appeal.

Intellectual Property

Acting for the manufacturer of agricultural equipment in successfully obtaining relief for breach of copyright. This is the first reported decision of a case concerning unregistered design rights.

Finance, Tax and Asset Distribution

Representing Executors in high value contested estates including estates involving business property.

Advising and acting for the beneficiaries in a complex and high value probate in a case which involved no will, assets overseas, an investigation by HMRC about the value of estate on death and defending an Inheritance Act claim by the deceased's partner who challenged the distribution of the estate under the intestacy rules.

Acting for a defendant expert in a substantial claim to set aside an expert report dividing a large family property portfolio - allegations of bias, collusion, deceit and material departure from instructions - claims dismissed after 3 week trial in the High Court of Justice.

Advising a tenant on repair obligations under a commercial lease in response to dilapidations claim valued by the landlord at over five times the eventual negotiated settlement.

Acting for a claimant in a commercial property dispute with a co-owner to exit from partnership arrangement and for the sale of jointly-owned properties and subsequent enforcement action to force the sale of properties when the co-owner refused to comply with court orders.
